"Celebration Time" As 13-Year-Old Girl DIES After 68-Day Fast

Aradhana's funeral had in attendance over 600 people hailing the dead girl as a 'bal tapasvi'.

Instead of the demise of the young teenage girl after 68 days of fasting been considered a tragedy, it was however "celebration" time for the Jain community resident in Hyderabad.

Local reports have it that Aradhana, a student of class 8, was compelled to stop attending school and partake of a fast that was a Jain ritual that takes place during the holy period of "chaumasa."

She suffered a heart attack 2 days after breaking her fast, dying shortly after.

NDTV reported that the funeral ceremony was hailed as a 'shobha yatra' - a mark worthy of celebration.

In attendance was the Telangana minister from the Secunderabad area, Padma Rao Goud, who was the chief guest at the colorful event for 'Paarana', which marks the end of the fasting period.

The Jain ritual of fasting till death known as Santhara is generally observed by the elderly seeking renunciation of their sins or those who are seriously sick.

Lata Jain, a member of the Main community objects to children partaking of this fast, she told NDTV that it was suicidal if not murderous.

There have been calls from activists for the police to register a case against Aradhana's family.

According to Times of India, Aradhana's father, Laxmichand Sansadiya, suffered great losses his jewellery business, so he made his young daughter fast in order to bring good luck and fortune to her family.

Nothing was hidden as everyone knew Aradhana was fasting. People came and took took selfies with her.

Now, however, some people are pointing fingers at Aradhana's family for allowing the little girl to fast for almost 10 weeks, Aradhana's grandfather, Manekchand Samdhariya informed journalists.
